One month to go.
He hosted a super-spreader event to honor a justice who would have the government control your body but refuse the duty to care for it, and when the virus he helped go around came around, he availed of the healthcare he would deny others, financed by the taxes he refuses to pay.
I had this whole tax thing worked out in my head and I was going to ignore the UFC style debate and really drive home the fact that Donald Trump lives rent free in a house that he doesn't pay for, riding in cars he doesn't pay for, protected by security he doesn't pay for, flying around the country campaigning in a plane he uses as a prop and doesn't pay for and then overnight Donald Trump, the master of distraction and General Melania Trump of the war on Christmas (recently exposed as a double agent) reported that they tested positive for the coronavirus. Is this our October surprise? Is this even true? The media treating it as fact is actually really surprising given that almost nothing the President says is objectively true and he has surrounded himself with those who lie for him.
I have had to pivot from this quote and my conclusion that by the transitive property, today's GOP doesn't want civilized society (see Proud Boys new line of merchandise, Stand Back and Stand By)
"Taxes are what we pay for civilized society.'' — Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., U.S. Supreme Court Justice
To this, which feels maybe a little too on the nose for so many reasons.
“Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” - Benjamin Franklin, noted kite flier and air bather
It was a wild week in America, even by Trump standards. It began with former campaign manager Brad Parscale being arrested then put on psych hold in Florida and ending with his replacement contracting covid. The entire week was populated with stories about Trump's taxes in the New York Times and on Tuesday we had the most embarrassing and, in hindsight, dangerous debate in American history, the first lady on tape profanely complaining about having to decorate for Christmas, and the President flying around the country shedding virus everywhere he goes. Oh, and DJT still won't condemn white supremacists even though his very existence should disabuse them of that notion. And neither will his administration.

Fridays in Trumpland have been excruciating. Long a day to dump news that some would like buried, this Admin has attempted to use it in a similar way, but have dumped things so enormous that the news cycle adapted and we all just started drinking on Thursday.
Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!
And about 16 hours later, he took a helicopter to Walter Reed Medical Center after going silent on Twitter for what must be a record for him and missing the one event on his schedule which was a phone call about SENIORS AND COVID, receiving some experimental treatment all despite having what the WH was describing as mild symptoms.
My understanding of this story has undergone a complete 180 since first hearing it. At first I wondered if it was even true. Is it another Trump distraction? A way to get out of additional debates? A way to get Melania and her "fucking" Christmas story out of the news? A way to push aside the tax story? An excuse for losing or possibly even a way out? But as the day wore on, the silence on Twitter when half the coverage on the news channels focused on his obesity and age became eerie. Then the transfer to Walter Reed when we all know that there's basically a hospital in the White House... made me wonder exactly how sick he is. And no matter what anyone says, no one will believe it. That is going to be Trump's legacy and the hardest part of putting this country back together once he's gone.
I don't want to be a person who hopes someone dies. They will. Everyone does eventually. I am a person who believes in democracy and justice and simply being a decent person during your time on earth because no one knows what happens next, or indeed if there even is a next. So according to my code, I hope for a swift recovery for Donald Trump because then he will be fit to serve time for his crimes.
But here's what I don't get. All the non-sarcastic thoughts and prayers sent his way. This is a man who lied while 210,000 Americans died. These were lives he CHOSE not to even attempt to save. So pretending that he is somehow not evil to the core, depraved, selfish, stupid and cruel kind of mystifies me. So, okay, I guess I would like to offer my thoughts and prayers the same way gun humping electeds do after a mass shooting when they know that it is the extent of their involvement and efforts on behalf of those impacted.
Trump getting sick does not absolve him of blame for the 210,000 Americans lost to this virus so far. Do not forget this.
This is a good time to re-up this satire (is that even a thing anymore?) rewrite of Edgar Allen Poe's The Masque of the Red Death. Enjoy?

With just a month to go until the election, President Donald Trump had a busy schedule during the week the coronavirus hit home with him. Trump tweeted early Friday that he and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Notre Dame launched a site for students to snitch on each other for COVID-19 violations.Instead, they awesomely have used it to report the university president for shaking hands and not wearing a mask at the White House, demanding his resignation.

A wealthy prince throws a huge party in his gaudy mansion during an epidemic for his asymptomatic friends while the peasants die. Then the virus shows up and tears through his fancy guests. Familiar? It's the exact plot of Edgar Allan Poe's 1842 classic, "Masque of the Red Death"
People are mocking this tweet as inconsistent with Trump's real-world policies, but asking the Supreme Court to strike down the law that requires insurers to cover preexisting conditions is, in fact, protecting those conditions from medical treatment. https://t.co/RfiPxs8pTt
